A Finalist in Amazon’s 2019 Small Business Spotlight Awards

On October 15, 2019, Amazon announced 18 U.S. finalists across three categories in its first Small Business Spotlight Awards. Ravenox was one of six finalists for Small Business of the Year. As its founder and CEO, I was proud to represent our team.

The recognition gave our team a chance to share the work behind Ravenox: manufacturing in the United States, serving customers, and creating opportunities for veterans.

How Amazon Selected the Finalists

Amazon evaluated nominees on three criteria:

  • Brand Narrative: The strength of the founder’s story and the mission driving the company.

  • Product Innovation: The ability to create, refine, or deliver products that stand out.

  • Customer Centricity: Evidence of deep commitment to serving and delighting customers.

More than 1,300 U.S. small businesses nominated themselves. Amazon selected six finalists in each of three categories, then invited customers to vote for the winners.

Why This Recognition Matters

For me, this recognition was an opportunity to show how military experience, a focus on customers, and persistence can inform the day-to-day work of building a business.

Being a finalist encouraged me to keep improving Ravenox while sharing what I had learned with other business owners.

Carrying the Lessons Forward

My work has also included nonprofit board service, business strategy, and mentoring entrepreneurs. I bring the same attention to people and practical execution to those responsibilities.

The experience reinforced the value of adapting to challenges, listening to customers, and building a team that can deliver consistently.

Looking Ahead

I look back on Ravenox’s selection as a milestone for our team and a reason to keep investing in the business and the communities it serves.
