About Duty

Robert M. Gates recounts serving as secretary of defense during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The memoir adds another institutional perspective to the leadership collection.

Why I include it

Public leadership and military command do not always ask the same things of a decision-maker. Duty is worth comparing with Worthy Fights and Call Sign Chaos for its perspective on defense leadership and civil-military decisions.
