Ernst Jünger’s World War I memoir draws on his experience on the Western Front. Its historical distance provides a challenging comparison with contemporary accounts of combat.
Why I include it
An earlier generation’s combat memoir puts contemporary military writing in perspective. Read The Storm of Steel for that comparison, paying attention to differences as well as continuities in the experience of war.
