Washington Retail Association: Board Service and Advocacy

Sean Brownlee at Washington State Capitol Olympia

In December 2018, I was elected to the Washington Retail Association (WRA) Board of Directors. Over the next six years I served in executive leadership roles as Vice Chairman, Chairman (2021), and Immediate Past Chairman, culminating in the WRA Service Award (February 2022) in recognition of sustained leadership and collaboration on behalf of Washington’s retail community.

“Even when we knew how limited Sean’s time was, he was always willing to offer his expertise, knowledge, and commitment. Service above self is just one way I would describe Sean Brownlee’s approach to leadership.” — Renée Sunde, President & CEO, Washington Retail Association

Advocacy in Action

Legislative Engagement in Olympia

Beginning in 2018 and continuing through 2024, I joined WRA leadership and board members at the State Capitol in Olympia to meet with Senators and Representatives and discuss the issues that affect retailers and consumers, including:

  • Retail Theft & Organized Retail Crime: Stronger tools and coordination to address loss prevention and community safety

Leadership Beyond the Boardroom

As a U.S. Marine with more than two decades in Special Operations, I lead with service, accountability, and mission focus. I founded Ravenox to create American manufacturing jobs and to prove that domestic production and innovation can thrive together. That same approach guided my WRA work—collaborating across sectors to keep Washington’s retail ecosystem competitive, safe, and opportunity-rich.

Looking Ahead

From 2018 to 2024, WRA board service reinforced a simple truth: retail is community infrastructure. I’m committed to continuing this work, supporting policy solutions that protect consumers, empower small businesses, and sustain the jobs that anchor every Main Street in Washington.
