On July 27–28, 2022, I had the privilege of joining the National Retail Federation’s Retail Advocates Summit in Washington, D.C. This event is the retail industry’s premier advocacy program, where small business leaders connect directly with lawmakers to share stories and highlight the critical contributions retailers make to their communities.
For over a century, the NRF has convened retailers, from department stores to Main Street entrepreneurs, to ensure our voices are heard. At the 2022 Summit, the focus was clear: celebrating advocacy in action and reminding policymakers of retail’s role in driving the economy, creating jobs, and strengthening communities.
Honored as a 2022 Retail Advocacy Leader
As CEO of Ravenox, an American manufacturer and retailer, I was named a 2022 Retail Advocates Summit honoree. Being recognized alongside other passionate small business leaders underscored my commitment to not just growing my own business, but also advocating for policies that empower all entrepreneurs.

The Retail Experience on Capitol Hill
The NRF also showcased “The Retail Experience,” an immersive exhibit on Capitol Hill designed to educate lawmakers about retail’s impact. It featured six interactive stations highlighting technology, workforce development, job creation, and industry transformation.

This showcase was an incredible opportunity to demonstrate firsthand how companies like Ravenox contribute to innovation and job growth, while also reflecting the importance of U.S. manufacturing and retail.
Why Advocacy Matters
Retailers are their own best advocates. Legislators listen closely to the people and businesses they represent, which makes personal involvement critical. Advocacy helps ensure policies support small businesses, encourage innovation, and protect opportunities for growth.
At Ravenox, I see advocacy as part of leadership — whether presenting awards to lawmakers, joining national conversations, or demonstrating the tangible impact of American manufacturing and retail.
Looking Ahead
My participation in the NRF Retail Advocates Summit reinforced a long-term mission: to combine entrepreneurship with public policy advocacy in ways that strengthen small businesses nationwide. As the retail landscape evolves, I will continue to ensure that the voice of entrepreneurs is heard in the conversations shaping our future.
