Amazon Small Business Impact Report
In 2019, Amazon released its annual Small Business Impact Report, highlighting the contributions of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), content creators, and developers worldwide. The report emphasized Amazon’s ongoing investment of tens of billions of dollars since 2011 to support entrepreneurs, as well as more than $500 million in AWS credits provided in 2018 to help startups accelerate growth.
The findings showed that:
-
SMBs selling in Amazon’s stores created an estimated 1.6 million jobs worldwide, up from 900,000 in 2017.
-
More than 50,000 small businesses exceeded $500,000 in sales on Amazon in 2018.
-
Nearly 200,000 surpassed $100,000 in sales, and more than 25,000 topped $1 million.
Sean Brownlee Featured in the Report
As part of the 2019 Impact Report, Sean Brownlee, CEO of Ravenox and founder of Frontier Market Solutions, was recognized for his entrepreneurial leadership. Highlighted for building a manufacturer-direct-to-consumer model, Sean shared how Amazon enabled his companies to expand globally while he balanced responsibilities as a U.S. Marine.
“A key piece of our growth is that I’m able to work remotely. I’m constantly traveling for business and for drilling with the Marine Corps. The ability to continue working, whether with Amazon or any other aspect of my business, has been critical.” – Sean Brownlee
Fostering the Growth of Small Businesses
Sean’s work extends beyond Ravenox. He has guided companies of all sizes in brand management and long-term growth strategies, helping small businesses bring products to market while supporting large companies in scaling effectively.
His inclusion in the Impact Report underscores his dual mission: fostering innovation at Ravenox while mentoring other entrepreneurs to succeed in the Amazon marketplace.
Ravenox and Amazon’s Partnership
For Ravenox, Amazon has been instrumental in expanding its reach. By selling rope, cordage, and hardware products directly to consumers on Amazon, Ravenox bypasses traditional distributors and delivers high-quality, USA-made goods with exceptional customer service.
This model has allowed Ravenox to thrive during times when SMB resilience is crucial. The Amazon partnership has not only increased sales but also provided visibility for Ravenox’s commitment to sustainability through recycled and upcycled materials.
